Adaptive Learning part 2….
Learning occurs when a new idea is presented to us and we have to tease it part to understand it. Often the best thoughts can seem alien initially, but by resisting the urge to dismiss and embracing the possibilities we will learn something! My experience is that this process is enhanced by having really sharp people around you. I have heard many top flight leaders say they want to be the least intelligent person at the table. This requires self confidence in hiring so that you are not afraid of being “outdone” by your subordinates. Insecure leaders want constant reassurance and reinforcement of their ideas. Superior execs want stimulation from those who will challenge and question assumptions leading to a breakthrough. This is what is happening in organizations that are always on the leading edge – they are always looking at how do do it better. They analyze what happened and look at what worked and what failed and develop new approaches. This happens when everyone doesn’t think alike and when the team is secure enough to say what they really think. Does your team operate like this? Do they push forward to challenge old ways of doing things? Are they confident that offering a new approach will be met with curiosity?
